You have to pick your axles according to the letter of the rules, not interpret between the lines. There are only 3 rules for Cubby axles. Min dia, max dia and they must be official BSA nail axles. Since there are no other can'ts or don'ts, those are the rules. The rules don't say you can't file, turn down or polish so we can. The rules don't say you can't cut a tuning groove in the head, so we can. The rules don't say you can't bend the axle for a steer axle, so you can. The rules don't say you can't cut a groove in the axle, so you can but good luck on that one. Again, only my take on this but if it is different, I don't think it is right.

Wonder what we can screw up when creating a grooved axel? One thing I can think off is making burr when machining. If I chuck it up on my lathe and cut it like Evo's, for example, what can go wrong? The diameter of the groove I don't believe would be critical. nor the finish in the bottom of the groove. You might bend the axel but if you take light cuts. Also, if the groove is not perfectly concentric that should not matter because the wheel bore does not ride there - any thoughts?

Bump........
BSB and Mood please explain your Comments please!! Again I might be looking to hard and overthinking things. Is it that easy to mess up grooving a BSA axle? I have been doing it for the last 7 scout cars I have built. Either im getting it right or have no idea...LOL 5 of them won pack and District and one won pack and 3 rd at Diztrict.

Which comment? LOL
Right now I run UN grooved axles on my Cubby Pure Stock. I was just throwing it out, would I gain speed by using grooved. My Cubby has been doing pretty good so far in Cubby and Pure stock class so I would not want to hurt the car, so having a second set of axles, grooved, I could test any speed loss or gain without disrupting the car too much.

Mood, maybe this is slightly off topic, hopefully not too much. When you run that car in both Cubby and Pure Stock, do you make any adjustments to the car while you're there or is it exactly the same for both classes?
